Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatuLlah wa barakaatuh.
Trust that you're good, striving and thriving.
A few months ago, One of Us wrote a letter about The Cancer Of Complaining. The whole point was to remind us to not wallow in complaining and grumbling and one of the two things that featured on the combat list were striving for a solutions mindset and avoiding complaint-ridden conversations ( the hardest).
This letter seems like a perfect moment for a part II, especially after a conversation I had with a brilliant young man with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, complaining had gotten the best of him, mostly due to some sad situations from his past. You could see how bitterness and hopelessness, were sneaking in. Regardless, the conversation still had sparks of light when he connected to the hope.
We concluded the conversation agreeing that team complaining was full and team solving needed more people. We ended with a question ‘What are you going to do about it?’
As I write this letter today, I am reminded that i have had my fair share of complaining too and it being one of my least favourite things, does not make it less tempting. I fight it as much as I can, but I still fall and have fallen many times.
Today, I am asking myself , about the issues that in the Ummah and what I am going to do about them.. It is not enough to complain about division, platforms, cultural influences/takeovers, spaces for women, recreational spaces without smoke and loud music and platforms to find suitors, we have spent HOURS talking about them. We know the issues let us cut to the part where we ask What we can do about them.
While there is a lot of sitting and complaining going on, others are solving problems that will not only make a difference to the Ummah, but that will( Insha Allah )weigh heavy on their scale of good deeds.
A sister is bridging the gap of loneliness , educating and running a community for Muslim women.
Two sisters in Africa developed a community and spaces with a brilliant Fajr morning club for Quran reflections and implementation.
A group of muslims have made donating to The Ummah’s most urgent needs easy.
A brother has unearthed the origins of mindfulness in our faith and is using it to help us improve the quality of Salah and life.
One brother has focused on productivity for Muslims who struggle in the corporate world.
While some have focused on educating the Ummah others are focused on raising great kids and upholding family values.
Some people inspire and call others to good through the most beautiful reminders and reflections..
Some will be creators, while others will be contributors..
Will you only be a complainer?
These examples are to inspire and not intimidate you. They are to get you to ask you: What will you do for the Ummah?
Mini-Task: Get a piece of paper and brainstorm on your skills, interests and experience. You can also buddy up and get someone to do the activity with you, the goal is to answer the question: What can I do to contribute to the Ummah? Remember to set your intentions and ask for Allah’s help!
REFLECTION OF THE WEEK
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful,
You think that due to your sins, you cannot come close to Allah;
You think that the message of the Qur’an is only for the pious;
You think that you have gone far too away to become a beloved slave of Allah;
You think that the Qur’an is a book we simply recite;
You think you cannot change.. Razia Zahra
SPRING 2024 TERM IS HERE!!!
I am always super EXCITED when a new semester opens up at Ribaat! I LOVE the courses and LOVE my teachers! May Allah increase them in wisdom and knowledge and accept all the great work they do.
As usual, the Spring Term courses are LOOOOOOOOKING GOOD! One of my favorite courses EVER is there training the tongue and purifying the heart by Anse Marah !!!! I can speak about Ribaat all day everyday without getting tired. Their courses are educative, well prepared, easy to understand and pretty flexible for your busy schedule. Then the manners of the teachers!!! Ya Allah! So beautiful!!! Did I mention that they have financial assistance and country discount codes too? YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE!
If you have wondered why it is so important to see knowledge, this video is for you! I watched and was really in shock at the extent people will go to lead people astray and away from this religion. Watching this made me think of these two verses:
And then Iblis said, ‘Because You have put me in the wrong, I will lie in wait for them all on Your straight path: I will come at them- from their front and their back, from their right and their left- and You will find that most of them are ungrateful.’
Look Shaytan is working round the clock to get us off this path and this video shows just one of his ways, creative, sly approach he employed there! May Allah save us and protect from him and followers. I am trying not to drop a spoiler, but it is hard!
Till Next Week, Insha Allah
We leave you in Allah’s care,
