Asalam Alaekum Waramatullahi Wabarakatu,
Trust you are doing well striving and thriving.
Major shoutout to our new sisters in the house!!! After our Watch Party on Sunday, we spotted the new additions and we are so blessed to have you here! We pray that you find this space community beneficial and that ‘your stay’ with us will inspire you to that which is good and pleasing to Allah, Ameen.
This is our last newsletter for 2022 and there is no pressure here at all. Of course, there is the obvious fear, that we can leave this earth at anytime and the deep worry as to whether we have done enough. It is a good kind of fear though, the type that pushes you to want to strive more and reminds you how time is a valuable resource that cannot be wasted. We are however aware of how this period comes with an intense amount of pressure and the scurry for vision boards, resolutions and goal setting and how everyone just goes into panic mode. At Ibadahplug, we do not believe in resolutions, unrealistic goal setting and the pressure that comes with the start to a new year.
We are aware that it will take ages to convince you to let go though..lol So instead of trying to get you to change, we’ll instead ask that you consider a few things.
How about intention-setting for a change? Mohammed Faris has this approach to preparing for the year that we absolutely love! One of us has been using it for quite some years now and it is beyond valuable. It teaches you to set goals like a gardener and we find it to be the most Akhirah centered approach to planning. You can read the article and get the resources here. We also highly recommend starting off the year with his book, The Productive Muslim.
Then there is this talk by Nouman Ali Khan, The Pursuit of Happiness that we just looooove! It is pretty useful in helping to put things in perspective and also helps us realize what we should be striving for.
You know we won’t leave without talking about time management. Instead of fretting and trying to chase after every single second, why don’t you focus on the little moments in the day instead? Yup, you guessed right! The pockets of time! You know that time you spend waiting for the train to arrive or all the time that goes by in traffic, why don’t you use it for something productive instead? We have the perfect resource to help you achieve this, a video resource and a workbook as a companion too.
JARA (Extras)
My dear sister R reminded us during the Watch Party of a resource by Yaqeen Institute on Overcoming the Post-Ramadan blues, her contribution was specifically from Sheikh Abdullah Oduro’s talk on what we need to sustain acts of worship throughout out the year but we think that you will find it helpful in your planning too.
We hope you find all these resources helpful and we look forward to seeing you in 2023! May Allah spare our lives.
