The Gifts We Overlook: A Reminder from Allah

Asalam Alaekum Waramatullahi Wabarakatu,

Trust you are well, striving and thriving, In shaa Allah.

Can you complete this task for me? he asked. It was at the end of a long workday on a non-working day, and I was completely exhausted. He even offered to pay, but I was still uninterested. Then, he mentioned it was for the Muslim community in his area. Wait, what? Suddenly, energy came from nowhere. I did a quick scan and remembered that my Sadaqah (charitable deeds) were still looking pretty shaky. Allah blessed me with the strength, and in no time, I completed it—done and dusted. The money? I couldn’t have cared less.

You see, it’s the gifts for me! The way Allah brings me into situations, no matter how hectic my schedule seems at times! Whether it's the call of someone in need, a sick person requiring help, or someone looking for a credible organization to donate to—it’s always something. I used to foolishly think of these things as burdens, rolling my eyes and sighing, thinking, "One more person to drain me."

Drain me of what, though? The money I didn’t even give to myself? Or the time I did not create? Ya Allah, forgive me for my arrogance!

Now, I stand in awe of the many opportunities He has blessed me with. Who knows which of these deeds will tip the scales in my favor on the Day of Judgment? Who knows which act of kindness will be my salvation? Never think that Allah is unaware of you. Never think you are not part of His grand plan. Those little “sneak peeks” He blesses us with are reminders. If we were even slightly aware of His beautiful yet subtle design, we would be sujood-ing on speed mode!

Al-'Aleem (The All-Knowing) knows I could never get there on my own. That’s why He nudges me, pushes me in the right direction, and sometimes places these chances right in front of me! Ya Allah, I am grateful—truly, deeply, grateful. Please forgive me for my days of foolishness.

May Allah never leave us to ourselves even for the blink of an eye.
