Dhul-Hijjah is literally around the corner and I am just thinking of how incredibly blessed I am to have another chance to connect to Allah. Subhanallah! Am I the only one who is in constant awe of Allah’s mercy and generosity??? It was just a few days ago that some of us were trying to drag Ramadan back and boom! We are being hit with the best 10 days of the year..Alhamdulillah Robbil Alameen, there is soooo much to be grateful for!
My love for Dhul Hijjah started a few years back when I watched this incredible series Voice in the dessert by Omar Suleiman. Learning about the connection between these days, the holy pilgrimage and frequent Du’aa was nothing short of amazing.
Learning how to leverage these days to strengthen my Ibadah Muscle has to be attributed to the spiritually uplifting competition put together by Rabata though, Pilgrims at Home.
There are a ton of other things that helped me to value this month and the first ten days more and I will love to share those with you. Please look through them and the other amazing resources we will be sharing via this link and choose what works for you. Whichever you settle for, please do not let these ten days fly by without maximising them.
Ready?
Let us start from the very beginning. Why is this month important?
Clue: It is all about the 10 days…
Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah).” He was asked: “O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?” He (ﷺ) replied, “Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it.” [Al- Bukhari].

If you are anything like me, you will be doing imaginary cartwheels in the air and thinking ‘How can I make the most of these 10 days???
I can, (Insha Allah), give you a sneak peek into what has helped me in the previous years.
Start out with an understanding of what these ten days are about, the history, significance and their relationship with prophethood. This playlist can help you with that
After immersing yourself in these virtues, I guess you will be looking for a platform to execute, that is where Pilgrims at Home comes in, a competition that combines fasting, Dhikr, prayer, and Quran recitation all geared towards maximising this period. Sisters from all over the world are paired into groups and score points for their different acts of worship, it is a great spiritual booster, fun and also promotes great sisterhood, all the details can be found here!
For those who are longing to go to Hajj ( Wait..Isn’t that everyone?) Following the journey of the Pilgrims is the most emotional thing ever! Subhanallah, you cannot watch videos of them and not set your intentions and make Dua to be called to Allah’s House. You can watch this on the Muslim Pro app.
Another resource I find very fabulous for Dhul-Hijjah is Life with Allah.
Don’t forget the immense benefits of giving out Sadaqah and what better day than the best 10 days??? We have curated a list of organisations you can donate to in these 10 days, Launchgood , Yaqeen Institute , Quran.com, Rabata.
…and with that my dear people, I pray that this Dhul Hijjah is memorable, beneficial and accepted from you.
Ameen.
Leaving you in Allah’s care,
Omodara
